àCan€anything€be€said€in€general€about€validity€of€content€analytic€measures,€including€thoseÏcomputed€by€MCCA?€€Our€experiences€to€date€suggest€rather€direct€links€between€content€analysisÏmeasures€and€certain€theoretical€concepts.€€One€reason€for€this€may€be€that€content€analysis€allows€oneÏto€operate€directly€on€the€expressed€meanings€and€emphases€of€subjects€rather€than€requiring€them€toÏtranslate€their€experiences€into€structured€statements€closer€to€the€researcher's€needs.€€The€emphases€andÏnuances€of€respondents€are€preserved.€€Another€possible€reason€for€a€sense€of€greater€substantiveÏvalidity€is€that€the€data€are€more€likely€to€be€gathered€as€a€part€of€the€normal€process€of€humanÏcommunication€rather€than€the€"encoded"€or€"pre-structured"€conversation.Ìà
